Do I need UT2?

Just wondering if and why I would need UT2 as it looks like I don't, but what would having it do differently then just installing this straight up?

No need for UT2 at all.
UT2 is collection of FSX models and a special "engine"(application) external to the simulator which "injects" AI aircraft into your simulator on the fly.
FAIB just makes FSX AI models which can be used to replace the existing UT2 models if the user wishes to do so.
Personally I think the idea is good but the implementation is not good.
